Description of Works
St Giles View will be a high specification nursing and dementia care home that will include 60no purpose-built en-suite bedrooms and facilities to support not just its residents, but their families also.
The works will include the demolition of the existing vacant building, creation of a new car park and additional features such as activity lounges, dementia-friendly corridors and outside spaces have been included to aid and enrich the lives of the residents.
In addition, there will also be a café/restaurant and a hair and beauty salon. All of the community spaces will be open for residents, their families, and the local community.
A concrete frame construction will be used for this development and external works have been designed to blend in with existing vegetation and retained trees.
A 15m level difference between the North and South site is impacting how materials are being distributed around the site. A combination of cranage, hoists and forklifting is being used.
Due to the location of the site being on a residential road, access is very restricted. All deliveries are scheduled the day before and delivery drivers must call 30mins before arrival.
The building is cut into the bank at the North Elevation, this requires a significant amount of temporary works to allow the buildings retaining wall to be installed. This was all designed to maximise the limited space and the need to keep the site entrance open.
The South side of the site has been redesigned to allow for an engineered bank to raise the levels up by 5m. This enables us to keep a significant amount of materials on site.
An external platform lift has been designed to suit the client's requirements. This was particularly challenging due to the 5m level difference and the fact it needed to be external without a lift shaft.
All four sides of the site required tree protection to be installed. Works needed to be competed and signed off by the local authority before any works could commence.
