Real helps create new wetland area in Bishop's Stortford
Real has planted 200 trees and shrubs in a culvert area to create a mini wetland at its Northgate End Road car park development in Bishop’s Stortford.

Joining Real at the event were local councillors and officers from East Hertfordshire District Council, Councillor and Mrs Townsend from Bishop’s Stortford Town Council and volunteers from other local organisations: Clarion Housing Group, Castle Park, Salvation Army, SoResi, Calfordseaden and WeCare4Air.

Real, a construction and regeneration business, held the tree planting event as part of its commitment to building sustainable communities. Wetlands are areas where water covers soil all or part of the time and are important to protect and improve water quality, provide fish and wildlife habitats, store floodwaters and maintain surface water flow during dry periods.

Paul Nicholls, Chief Executive of Real, said: “We take very seriously our commitment to ensuring the sustainability of the development work that we do. Taking the opportunity to plant trees at our Northgate End Road car park development has been a great way to create an area that will provide wildlife habitats for decades to come.

“The day was also a perfect opportunity to invite along the local authority and some of the other local organisations that make this type of development possible. I think we all enjoyed having a day out of the office – despite the rain! – and getting our hands dirty.”
